Your information
Privacy policy.
01The policy
This policy explains what personal information Effective Not Famous collects through this website, why we collect it and how we look after it. We have kept it short and plain. If anything is unclear, get in touch and we will answer.
1. Who we are
Effective Not Famous (“ENF”, “we”, “us”) is a podcast about people making a difference, the lives they’ve lived, and what we can learn from them. It is hosted by Rutu King-Stubbs, produced by Jono King-Stubbs and presented by Hope Is My Homeboy, in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This website is run by [Legal name of the business behind Effective Not Famous], [Postal address].
2. What we collect
When you send us a message
Our contact form asks for:
- your name and email address;
- the topic of your message: a general enquiry, a guest suggestion, sponsorship and partnerships, or media;
- your message, and anything else you choose to tell us in it;
- if you suggest a guest, their name and where we can find out more about them, if you choose to add these.
When you suggest someone, please share only what is already public, or what they are happy for you to pass on. The form also has a hidden field that helps us filter out spam. It stays empty and holds nothing about you.
When you visit the site
We use basic analytics to understand how the site is used as a whole. It records things like the pages you open, the site or link that brought you here, your type of device and browser, a rough location at country or city level, and clicks on watch and listen links such as Watch on YouTube or Listen on Spotify. Our analytics tool is [Analytics tool, to be confirmed], set up to report totals rather than follow individual visitors.
On your own device
The site may remember a display choice, such as reduced motion, in your browser’s local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
3. How we use it
We use your information only for the reason you gave it to us:
- to read your message and reply to it;
- to consider the guests you suggest for the podcast;
- to talk with you about sponsorship, partnership and media requests;
- to see which pages, episodes and ways of listening people find useful, so we can improve the site;
- to keep the site and the form secure and free of spam.
We never sell personal information. Sending us a message does not add you to a mailing list.
4. Who we share it with
Your message is read by the Effective Not Famous team. We share information outside the team only in these cases:
- Service providers that run parts of the site for us: [Website host], [Form service], [Analytics tool] and [Email provider]. They handle information on our behalf.
- Hope Is My Homeboy, our presenting partner, only when your message is meant for them, for example a partnership that involves them. We tell you when we pass a message on.
- When the law requires it, for example to answer a lawful request from a public agency.
5. Cookies, analytics and players
We keep cookies to a minimum. [List the cookies the chosen analytics tool sets, or say that it sets none.]
Pages on this site can include a YouTube video player and a Spotify player. When a player loads or you press play, YouTube (Google) and Spotify may set their own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies.
Links to YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Facebook, Instagram and Hope Is My Homeboy, and the share buttons on episode pages, take you to other websites. Their own privacy policies apply there.
6. Storage and how long we keep it
Information is stored with our service providers, and some of them may keep it outside New Zealand. [Where the form service, the email provider and the analytics tool store data.]
We keep messages only as long as we need them to reply and follow up, then delete them: [Retention period, to be confirmed]. Analytics reports are kept as totals.
7. Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Only the team members who need your message can see it. [Confirm HTTPS and access controls with the host]
8. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email us at [Contact email] or use the contact form. We will reply as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
9. Young people
The podcast is for a general audience, and some conversations talk about grief, mental health and suicide. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or caregiver before you send us a message.
Need to talk? Free call or text 1737, any time.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows, for example once the tools above are confirmed. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
11. Contact us
